Wow I,m learning more by reading these comments then watching the video... I thought putting the swab through the whole horn at once from the mouthpiece down, like it showed, was right, but purchasing a swab, the string wasn't long enough to go through the whole horn so I had to take the mouthpiece off 1st anyway. makes sense! Can anybody comment on using a non wood reed? I purchased a FiberCell reed because I was told they are better then bamboo (med. soft)... Any thoughts from you experts?

@capitanct Yeah. I don't know what it's like where you're from but most of my school's clarinets have old used wooden ones that they use . . . My wooden one is an old Noblet that I bought used but it still works great and I'm happy to own it. :) I had to use it for about half of marching band this year because of another clarinet player's being like too old and broken to repair. So I loaned her my plastic one. ._. and discovered last week she hadn't used any cork grease on it. ._.

@Motionl3ssWindmill Absolutely! I realize now that my comment reads a bit one sided. It would have been better to be more thorough. Thanks for saying so!

@capitanct I do use a plastic for marching and a wooden for concert, but unfortunately not everyone has the luxury of owning both. I apologize if this obvious condition didn't cross your mind.

@capitanct I personally do use a plastic for marching and a wooden for concert but not everyone has the luxury or owning both. I apologize if this obvious condition didn't crossed your mind.

Hi capitanct, it's MattSax, this is hilarious to me that people on youtube are arguing with you about care of the clarinet, since you are currently auditioning for military bands for clarinet. People need to learn their place, and understand that they should not give out advice for things they are not qualified for.

continued ... And, wow. 4 you say? That is quite impressive. You must have had exceedingly large hands for a toddler.

@scg456789 You may have misread me. My whole point was NOT to start from the mouthpiece end but to pull it from the bell to the barrel after removing the mouthpiece. So, I agree with you. You should NOT pull it through the mouthpiece as this may cause damage. That is the first time I've heard of a mouthpiece cracking via swab. But you can certainly wear down the rails and over time and change the shape of the bore.
DO NOT START FROM THE TOP OR THE M/P PERIOD. Start from the LARGE END going to the SMALLER END. You'll be far less likely to get it stuck, considering this IS for BEGINNERS! Not to mention decrease ware on the inside of the tube. Also, please refrain from using BORE OIL. When an element is absorbed into wood, the wood expands. Any "advanced" player should understand that changing the shape of your bore is NOT to ones advantage! No Oil. The clarinet is not a piece of furniture.

the oil is only for the keys.
so if they get suck or are squaking then u should put it on the KEYS not the wood.
this person is NOT experienced at all if u want REAL clarinet lessons go to my channel and demand it in the comments box
i'll post videos 4 beginners AND expirienced!
