@CircusofPython Stood by because he actually had a moral compass, is more like it - quite unlike his successor. Buchanan actually had respect for the constitution, and realized he had no grounds to restrain the states from leaving. Oh, don't get me wrong, lincoln used the constitution alright. He just failed to realize it wasn't meant for toilet paper.

I never really understood everyone's strong reaction to this. I hated Bush but I never thought this was a huge deal. Everyone swears. Who gives a fuck if he's Christian or not? I'm not a Christian but I don't think that ANYONE has to be perfect.
