1994 WEBB WILDER had an early 90's hit short film on USA Network's "Night Flight" called "Webb Wilder, Private Eye." The character was commissioned to return for a series of original short Hard Rock Cafe anti-commercial commercials. The spots were too subtle for play in noisy Hard Rock's but it did inspire comedian / writer SHANE CALDWELL and Hard Rock's producer/director STEVE BOYLE to get together with Wilder in 1998 to attempt a Film Noir detective radio series for PRI Public Radio International. One show was fully produced, along with guest stars such as GEORGE "GOOBER" LINDSEY and an original big band soundtrack, but PRI didn't pick up the series due to a change in network format. A book WEBB WILDER, LAST OF THE FULL GROWN MEN was released by Wilder, Caldwell and Boyle which included two full stories "Mole Men" and "The Doll" as well as a teaser to a third story "Psychotronic Serenade." http://webbwilder.goatley.com/lotfgm/ww-lotfgm-sample.pdf
Back in the mid 1990's STEVE ROUTHIER, VP of Memorabilia asked Nashville music video director STEVE BOYLE to come up with a series of Anti-Commercial Commercials for Hard Rock Cafe to play in-house within the new global HRC music video channel they both created. The commercials the Steve's produced won a number of international film festival awards and was the start of the anti-commercial concept later adopted by MTV and ESPN.
