They tried to silence Dave Walker in the middle of the Lambeth Conference. Now all the bishops of CofE know about them. They'll not get their churches now. They didn't get the Gateshead one because clergy there described them as "a bunch of crooks".

Brewer tried to silence critics because he knew that the filing for bancruptcy would be challenged and he didn't want the publicity. It's backfired. Now we have seen the court papers and we know about him being a failed politician whose financial dealings were criticised in the Houston Press. Nice people these Brewers.

Silent, belacqua1, but not inactive, sadly. Also, they are trying to keep others silent as well. I've heard that they have been trying to stop the staff talking about working conditions and the state of business since nearly the start, and they've now forced Dave Walker into silence as well. Dave has been providing a voice for the disaffected and mistreated workforce, letting the truth set people free, so to speak, and now he's been forced to back down by threats of libel, of all things!

The silence is easily explained. The Brewers have presided over the virtual destruction of the fine Christian witness that was SPCK bookshops. They have bullied staff, failed to pay them, culminating (Worcester) in the death of one. They have tried to trick their way into acquiring property. And now they have tried to escape from responsibilty by declaring bankruptcy, as they begin trading under another name. Fraud, death, destruction, theft: with a record like like, thank God they are silent.

Its completely pointless to attempt to reach the British population with Eastern Orthodox.
No wonder its church populations are declining.

A message for Phil Brewer: We Brits do not like limp handshakes. For heaven's sake when you next shake a hand will you please do so firmly. I would like to say this to your face but it's difficult when you're trying to evade the handshake.

I've just gone from being Orthodox to infidel. Remember, Jesus asked Pilate,"what is truth?" ERDBEBEN17 tell us your truth. I'll share mine with you.JESUS CHRIST IS RISEN. JESUS CHRIST IS LORD OF ALL. Jesus also said, "Whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers..." What have the Brewers done to the staff of the shops they are selling without telling them? Jesus does not do shark trading. I don't think Jesus would appreciate church buildings rescued in HIS HOLY NAME through shark trading.REPLY

What a truly frightening, bigoted and inaccurate video. I am horrified. This is a travesty of the true picture of the Church in Britain. I am sure it does not reflect the views of mainstream Orthodoxy. What were SPCK thinking when they handed over their bookshops to this organisation? There can be no surprise at the way SSG has treated the loyal and experienced staff of SPCK shops. I am left feeling so, so sad.

(Part 2) Has SSTGT has come to the UK with the aim of working with and for the local Orthodox jurisdictions to promote Orthodoxy? The Charity Commission lists the trustees as Mark, Sandra and Karen Brewer so I don't understand the reference to Metropolitan Joseph being a trustee unless he is no longer one? I would really have expected to have seen someone like Archbishop Gregorios as the senior Orthodox cleric in the UK as a trustee if its aim is to promote UK Orthodoxy. Can anyone clarify?
