The Nature Conservancy is the largest environmental NGO in the world. CEO Mark Tercek talks with Edie Lush at Hub Davos.

Mark Tercek has come from Goldman Sachs to work with both government & business to invest in conservation and save nature.

One of the Nature Conservancy's major recent projects was in Quito, where the government was going to put in a huge water filtration plant to clean water. Instead of installing a large expensive grey infrastructure project, the Nature Conservancy worked with all of the local actors - from the government to farmers on a cheaper and more elegant way to clean Quito's water.

TNC went upstream from the river into the Bio Condor Reserve. Through measures such as building fences to keep cattle away from the river, digging ditches to keep fertilizer away from the river, The town water company, the brewer and the Coca-Cola franchise Femsa worked together to conserve clean water.

Now everyone who pays for water in Quito helps to support the scheme. In effect, people are paying to invest in nature to secure the benefits of nature.
