The Sicilian is one of black's strongest defensive lines to the King's Pawn opening from white. This video explores the Sicilian Defence, Dragon Variation Yugoslav Attack along with side lines and some modern theory.

We will continue with more Dragon variation lines in the next few videos, and then move to other lines in the open Sicilian such as:

Najdorf (5...a6)
Classical (5...Nc6)
Scheveningen (5...e6)

  • @albigjino You need to know a bunch of openings. You can't just know a single variation of one opening if you have any chance of being a good chess player, you need to know a lot of variations from MANY different opening and understand the ideas behind them. That way, if your opponent takes you out of the book (plays something that's not a book move) you'll at least know what rational move choices you can make, thanks to your knowledge of other openings.

  • at @ 20:17 why not Qe1? if black tries to jump in to g3 with his knight then queen could go ahead and recapture!!

  • Bored

  • @OlympicS12Jan i think it's because of the doubled up rooks on the e file, with a discovered attack on the queen whenever black moves the knight. i'm sure there's some way black can use that to his advantage.

  • @OlympicS12Jan if Qe1 then knight d3, threatening the queen with his rooks and bishop with his knight.

  • jrobichess ? Like jro+bitches ?

  • @OlympicS12Jan

    Was wondering the same.

After thinking it over, looks like white has too many threats to deal with for it to work. He doesn't even have a way to get his king's rook in the game.

  • LETS DO THIS DRAGON STYLE!!

  • @OlympicS12Jan It's a lost cause. The position is lost regardless:

If 26. Qe1, black plays 26. ...Rd6 (removing the rook from danger while guarding the square for the Knight check.) Then 27. fxe4 Rf6+ 28. Ke2 Rxe4+ 29. Kd1 Rd6+ 30. Qd2 Qb2! 31.Qxd6 Qxa1+ 32. Kc2 Qxh1 and the position is lost. This is just my opinion, though. I didn't run it through any chess software or anything.
