Overly-long cinema ad for Pan Am, transferred from a 16mm film print in my collection.

Opening scenes were shot in Sydney, rest of the commercial was shot in various overseas locations with an Aussie film crew.

Ad basically follows a young woman from Sydney, to (I think..) Hong Kong, Rome, and finishes up in London.

  • pan am ended, right? why?

  • @rosieaedo - Went bankrupt in 1991, partly as a result of long-standing debt, the purchase of National Airlines in 1980 (more debt), and a down-turn in passengers following the Lockerbie bomb tragedy...

  • WAIT WHY DID PAN AM SHOW EUROPEAN DESTINATIONS IN A AUSTRALIAN AD? DID THEY FLY SYD TO EROUPE?

  • @TheMrleomartin - Not directly, but via several stops, which are shown in the commercial...

  • bag tag says DPS - it starts in Bali

  • That's where's she's going to - the opening scenes are at Kingsford-Smith airport in Sydney...

  • @juantrippe82

All full time employees get at least 4 weeks per year...even those that have just joined a company...

  • this airline is legend ,

now we have only air france with this 70s special vibes

  • There was my home, Hong Kong, in 1970s.

  • Wouldn't it be easier to fly Sydney-Los Angeles-London? You aussies get loooong vacations! I'm moving to Austrailia!

  • @cirvine11 thank you for the nice remarks. We all loolk forward to the ABC show this fall-even though it sounds like a chick-flick, the memories will be great

  • @CdaCass I am so so sorry to hear about the suicides. Breaks my heart. Glad you all are ok and that the Pan Am family has stayed close. I'm a former passenger and miss you all very much. Pan Am will always be my airline.

  • the operative word here- DL pulled the plug! After agreeing to operate the LAD routes and have Pan Am stay in South America- they lied and never even published a schedule. Both my husband and I were unemployed, uninsured from one day to the next. many flight crew and ground personnel had breakdowns, committed suicide. The irony is that all these years later, the Pan Am family of employess are still so close knit and loyal....we never were the bad guys or the cause of the problem
