The Conscious Daughters (TCD) is a female rap duo, consisting of members Special One and CMG, out of Northern California's Bay Area. The duo signed in 1993 to rapper/activist Paris's record label Scarface Records after passing him a demo tape at a club. He released their first album, "Ear to the Street" on his Scarface Records label.
The single and video release of their 1994 hit "Somethin' to Ride (Fonky Expedition)" helped TCD gain national recognition. Soon after, they were signed by Priority/EMI Records and released their second album "Gamers". Gamers sold over 300K and entered the Billboard chart with a bullet. Many collaborations, projects and television appearances followed, most notably BET's Rap City, MTV Jams, and Soul Train.
In 2007, Nas released the track "Where Are They Now (West Coast Remix)" which features West Coast veterans Breeze, Kam, King Tee, Candyman, Threat, Ice-T, Sir Mix-A-Lot and the Conscious Daughters.
In 2009, their third album The Nutcracker Suite was released on Guerilla Funk Records on February 10, 2009.
In 2010, the daughters severed their relationship with Guerrilla Funk Records.
In 2011, The Conscious Daughters inked a distribution deal with Phaseone/Sony.
