Andrea Mitchell interviews Senator Carl Levin (D-MI) Armed Services Committee Chairman, on the recently declassified senate report on treatment of detainees. MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell Reports (aired: 04/22/09).
"We have recreated our enemy's methodologies in Guantanamo. It will hurt us for decades to come. Decades. Our people will all be subjected to these tactics, because we have authorized them for the world now. How it got to Guantanamo is a crime and somebody needs to figure out who did it, how they did it, who authorized them to do it, and shut it down because our servicemen will suffer for years" - Malcolm Nance
In which Malcolm Nance speaks on the issue of torture. - Malcolm Nance is a former master instructor and chief of training at the U.S. Navy's Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape school. As such, he is a man who knows well of which he speaks. (cont.)
The fact that Bush didn't go hard after bin Laden and shut down al Qaeda when the whole world would have supported us. Has left us in a dire situation indeed. Pakistan has nuclear weapons. The Taliban had set up shop in Pakistan. Al Qaeda is thriving in Pakistan. It is known that the intelligence community in Pakistan has links with al Qaeda. The current situation is MUCH more dangerous now than it was on 9/11/01.
Richard Clarke served as National Security Advisor for 4 Presidents (Bush Sr., Clinton (both terms) and Bush Jr. (until Clarke quit in disgust)). As such, I can make a strong case that Clarke is the foremost anti-terrorism expert in the world.
To which Clarke answers: "No, I think terrorist analysts outside of government, inside the CIA, terrorism analysts in European governments, there's a great consensus that the U.S. occupation of Iraq is the best thing that ever happened to al Qaeda, in terms of recruitment and fund raising." (cont.)
In a youtube video titled: "Al-Qaida endorses McCain Keith Olbermann Richard Clarke" - ( watch?v=A_S2poKe1hs ) at the 1 miunte 30 second mark. Olbermann asks Richard Clarke: Before we get to al Qaeda and the election and that relationship, any real doubt about the central premise here that the war in Iraq has been good for al Qaeda recruitment?" (cont.)
The sick irony is that Bush's war in Iraq was the best recruitment tool bin Laden could have hoped for. Osama must have been laughin' his axx off. - Instead of hitting OBL HARD, the US attacks Iraq! - #$#$%##
As evidence for my statement that Bushs war in Iraq has exacerbated our troubles with global terrorism I offer: (cont.)
wrt: "Not to mention the unsurpassable jeorpardy they put us into... " - I agree. The Bush administration's policies on Iraq and torture have made a bad situation much, much worse.
When Bush didnt heed Colin Powells warning against invading Iraq: You break it, you bought it.. - Bush bought the US (and the world) decades of trouble. No matter what we do.
No to forget Clarke warned them of an iminent attack - but all they were looking for we all know now>
