I am Russian too. I lived in orphanage, it was long time ago during soviet time. We were clothed, fed, sheltered and educated. No sex, drugs or cruelty. Most of us grew up as a normal citizens. My friend Larisa lives in UK. She is a lawyer. I live In US and have a master degree. It was better treatment of kids back then. I am not nostalgic of the Soviet system, But the system worked at least for us.

@PriestessAura I so agree with you. It makes me so angry that people make money off of poor orphans. I visited some orphanage websites that ask for donations. How do we know that if we donate, the money will go to the children and not to somebody else's pocket? And I agree also that the costs of adoption should be less. Because governments are so greedy and want more money, the orphans suffer.

@jewburner2000 Well then, Jewburner2000, keep on truckin'.

Even more shocking is the orphanages in China where children are left tied to chairs for hours and some of them die from extreme heat.

If your not prepare to have a baby then you should talk some caution like using birth control because people get pregnant and have a dilemma. Have the baby and hope it has a happy life with adoptive parents =) or abort the baby so that IF by chance the baby isn't adopted it won't have to spend its life all alone =(

I was adopted in an orphanage in 1997 in rostov on don. I would love to go back some day and find my real parents. I am now 21 and just enlisted in the u.s navy.

What really disturbs me is when I hear people talk about international adoption as if they are expecting to not have as many problems as they would with American kids. And then when they do get a hold of those kids, they treat them like trash because they aren't as great as they thought they would be. I feel bad for these kids.

My husband and I have been looking into adoption. We live in Canada, and I know that we can give a child a safe and loving home. I would love to adopt a child who is not s privledged as most of the children in Canada, but it is sooo expencive. It is not right to make profit off a child who could grow up to be a positive member to society!
As step-mother to three adopted girls, (two Russian, one Bulgarian) I must say, this brought me to tears. Our girls are beautiful young ladies now. What would their lives have been, if left there? I can only shudder to think. I wish I could bring them ALL to America, to be loved. No child deserves to be frightened, cold, hungry or unloved. Donations get hijacked by a corrupt government official, or the "care-givers" at the orphanages. This is why the orphanage workers are fat, the children thin.

I couldnt agree more... my friend and I finally found a good/honest contact who we know and send money to and we are sure he spends them on orphans... he has been helping orphanages for years and someone we can trust... Thank God there are people like that out there!
