Its easy to make fun of advertising from decades ago, but guess what, it sold the products for that time. I could make fun of that Helvetica Coke ad because by today's standards its cheesy and plain, but it came out at a time when that kind of ad would sell. If that ad came out in the '50s, that would be laughed at by "experts" and Coke would lose a ton of business. It's evolution, and being arrogant doesn't make one right.

thats true enough; however i just think he's just driving the point home, that sometimes you need to really press a drastic switch in strategy. nothing is wrong with laughing at ourselves.

I hate this guy. He's infatuated with his own words and descriptions.

They aren't being arrogant or making fun they're just saying how this typeface totally flipped and changed the direction of design.

not really TheMeehow. The reason they changed to Helvetica is because it converts better for ads. Before this time, testing and tracking ad results was difficult to do.
So, yes those crazy fonts sold the product before the 50s, but if they would of used Helvetica from day 1, they probably would of sold way more.
It's not so much the evolution of advertising in this situation, but the evolution of the advertiser

I’ve seen this movie many times and I agree, this is the best part.
Still love the entire film, though.
