Smokey Robinson composed the hit song "Get Ready"; the version by The Temptations (for whom the song was written) which in 1966 reached #29 in the US, and a subsequent rendition by the Motown rock band Rare Earth, whose 1969 version (as a 45 RPM single) rose to #4 the following year. Rare Earth's version of "Get Ready" was the band's first recording for Motown, and was based upon a version of the song it performed as the closing numbers to their live performances. In the live show, each member of the band performed a solo, resulting in a twenty-one minute rendition of the song. Rare Earth: lead vocals, Pete Rivera; vackground vocals, Gil Bridges and Rod Richards; instrumentation, Gil Bridges (saxophone), Pete Rivera (drums), John Parrish (bass guitar), Rod Richards (guitar), and Kenny James (keyboards).

Между тем в 1970 г исполнение Робинсоном и товарищами трогательной мелодии Стиви Уандера «The Tears of a Clown» принесло им долгожданный суперхит, возглавивший Billboard Hot 100 и хит-парад Великобритании.

  • Robinson actually married into the Gordy family, so he became a deep stock holder...ah, so to speak. He was a worthy addition because he did everything Motown needed: song writing, singing, playing, dancing...

  • @powergirl901 Thanks, I appreciate you writing. I have not listened to it for a couple of years and you're right, it sounds great! best, david (from my other channel)

  • So far, this is the best sounding thing I've ever heard. I was on You Tube in 2006 and haven't heard it this good. Congrats!

  • super muziek!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Excellent...

    One thing though:

Rare Earth's stellar version of this didn't come out "the following year", but rather in Summer of 1969, when their Eponymous MOTOWN imprint was launched.
