The Acer server is used mainly to archive transactions and it also acts as the domain controller (For the employees to login at the DOS-based POS systems using a username and password). The server runs Windows 2000 Server Edition and is VERY old. It is never turned off and this would've been its 5th or 6th year running 24/7 without a reboot but we had to move it into a new building.

===
The storage server (IBM) runs a unknown OS (Because they never turn the monitor on unless they need to check something) And is mainly used to store records of transactions, prices, and archives of the system configuration.

===
The IBM POS systems run an unknown version of DOS and they also run 24/7. There isnt anything special to say about them

===
The price check POS computer runs Windows 98 SE and also runs 24/7. It is usually only running the POS app. (Which covers the taskbar and everything to keep employees from slacking off on the internet) but since the rules arent really enforced we always use Alt-F4 to exit out and use Internet Explorer (Im not an employee but my mom works there) and as you can see since its a older computer it tend to crash everyonce in a while but hey..that Windows 98 for ya.

  • Where do you work? Do they allow you to hack the kiosks since you are an employee?

  • I don't work there I'm only 14, my mom works there. And the store doesn't have any Kiosks (yet, they planned on installing Kiosks) all they have is the ethernet ports for them.

  • hahaha awesome! i remember when i was working at retail shop, using the new POS IBM (touch and win xp) that crappy machine alwasys had networks problem, you just have to push the blue button and restart everthing or just unplug the newtwork wire. 5/5

  • Thanks man. Yea we had DOS crash a few time due to hard disk failures lol...but suprisingly enough ive never seen the Windows NT server crash though.
