In this video, I get a question from Luke who asks "My friend and I are both Windows users, all of our life. All of our software is in Windows and everything. We were each looking at purchasing a Mac. How was the transition from Windows to Mac, easy? Ballparking how much does it cost to buy all new Mac software (without installing vmware fusion in support for windows). We are both looking to heavily use iMovie and the iLife suite which already comes installed on a 09 Mac. Any advice?" Wow, what a question. There's a lot of objectivity to this question, but I'll do my best to answer. I came from a UNIX background, so the transition to Mac OS X was fairly seamless for me. In terms of software, I did have to buy Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop 7 which set me back quite a bit, but it was not absolutely necessary. Price which software you need, but also prioritize and determine if that software is absolutely necessary to have on the Mac. You can always utilize VMWare Fusion for some Windows software if you need to. The transition does take time and don't rush into it. Also, don't be afraid to try new software for the Mac. There are tons of great software titles out there that don't get a lot of recognition, but the Mac community is very friendly and will help you in many ways. I hope this answered your question, Luke. • Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you said objective or objectivity when you meant subjective or subjectivity (0:46, 5:10).

  • OMG R U FUKING SERIOUS. YOU BOUGHT OFFICE AND PHOTOSHOP FOR $600. YOU'RE A FUKING RETARD, HAVEN'T YOU HEARD OF PIRATE BAY.

  • i don't know if i mentioned it before, but this video title is innacurate. It should be called switching from Windows to OSX, or swtiching from PC to Mac. Thanks to BootCamp you can run Windows natively on a Mac without any issues, so a person doesn't have to switch, they can use both if they wish.

  • @philgunman actually i do support them getting it free. ill tell you how. im so poor id never buy it so they lost no money here. so when i use a good one they get free advertising (word of mouth) so the guys that can afford it buy it. 8p

  • recommendation. if you're new to a Mac and you're thinking of purchasing Microsoft Office for Mac, don't. It's nothing like the Windows version and iWork is a Mac specific Office suite that in some ways is far superior to what Microsoft offers. It is compatible with office formats so don't let that scare you off. There are tons of templates to help you out and get you started and each app in the suite links you to video guides when you first launch them, which i don't believe microsoft does
