just enjoy the tune pretentious tithead!

@todwfish Gardiner is too aggressive and clipped for my tastes, the German diction is lacking as well - his recording does not convey the distance of the choir representing the departed either (Arman's is about the only one that gets it right).

@bigmandrel stop hating haters! oops i'm just as guilty now :D

@bigmandrel Spare me the pretentious rhetoric, please.

Thanks for your kind reply. I do have Gardiner's performance as well. But, honestly I prefer the older approach, I mean the 50's, 60's and some 70's. Thanks.

I prefer the Gardiner interpretation.

Sublime! Second only to Mauersberger and the Dresdner Kreutzchor performance.

Heavenly!
I hear a great deal of this on posted commentary; that is, a preference for this recording or that recording. Who cares about such absolute statements of taste? My favorite "recording" of this work, or any work, is the one I last attended in concert, or the version that I "played" in my head an hour ago. If you care about the music, care about the music, lest you degrade it to some cheap, collectible commodity, like trading cards. Music lives inside you; the specific performance matters little.
