Drosophila gladiator: In the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster, fighting is observed among males as well as females. This movie shows a key feature of Drosophila male aggression: the lunge. While lunging, the attacking male fly rears up on his hind legs and snaps down on his opponent whom he tries to grab with his forelegs. Even though such an attack takes roughly only 46 msec, sometimes the opponent escapes just in time by jumping into the air and flying away. Hoyer et al., Current Biology 18(3), 159-167.
