Sure enough. The Northern Republicans of the 1860s and the Southern Democrats of the 1860s are no more. Most of the latter--people like Strom Thurmond--were driven out of the Democratic Party after its liberal wing pushed through civil rights legislation. They became the Republican base in the South. It's too bad you're too ignorant of history to understand this.

Don't ask yourself if Lincoln was a Republican or Democrat.  Party philosophies change over time and we all know a name is just a name. Ask yourself if the idea of abolition, one which you are trying to attribute to the Republican conservative party of today, was considered conservative or liberal at the time. I think you'll find it was VERY liberal. Now ask yourself why a conservative Republican would want to take credit for a liberal idea.

Don't go there, I was double major (Political Science/History). Strom Thurmund was not driven out but left the party in disgust with others and created a democratic splinter group called the "Dixiecrats". Since the civil rights movement, liberals have done nothing but made minorities dependent on Govt. But then, FDR, a democrat, made the USA a welfare state.
