See more fashion and figure skating come together at: http://www.lifeskate.com/skate/fashion/

When average fans watch a figure skater compete on television, we're transfixed by technique and athleticism. But New York designer Tania Bass is also paying close attention to the sequins and spandex. After all, the skating isn't the only work of artistry on the ice. Tania has dressed some of the world's top skaters, including Olympic champion Sarah Hughes, who posed in a Bass original for her memorable 2002 Time magazine cover. She also a leading designer for the prêt-à-porter market for individual, ice dance, pairs and synchronized skating. We recently visited Tania's workshop in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood, just steps from Broadway and the Theatre District, to better understand the hard work that goes behind her gossamer creations.

  • Amazing designer for skating costume, thank you.

  • that nude dress was for 2000 SP

'Serenade Fur Klara' as far as 'Daphne et Chloe' I would have liked to have seen Sarah wear the purple dress she wore @ 2001 SA & SC

  • Sarah should have worn that nude tone dress at the olympics. I like it a lot more than the blue.

  • Actually Caroline's dress is so beautiufl and professional because Del Arbour of CT made it. Caroline's family used to make her dresses but Del has made a few. Del has also dressed many high level skaters as well as synchro teams.

  • very cool dresses
