The US Role in Haiti's Food Riots

As people around the world continue to protest the soaring prices of basic food items, the World Food Program has described the crisis as a silent tsunami. The head of the Food and Agriculture Organization blamed the current global food crisis on "inappropriate" policy decisions over the past two decades. Nowhere is this more clear than in Haiti, where hungry people are rioting in the streets because they cannot afford to buy rice. Haiti imports most of its rice from the United States, which in turn remains heavily subsidized. We speak with human rights lawyer, Bill Quigley.

  • "They who have put out the peoples eyes reproach them of their blindness."

    John Milton (1608-16749)

  • He has a good point, its easier to give people cheap rice, so they wont grow their own, so there will be no competition coming from them.

  • It's unfortunate that corporate media continues to hide the atrosities that the U.S. and other European countries have done to Haiti.

  • So Bill Clinton wants me the help the Haitians? Tell him and Hillary to give their millions to them. They made it off their misery.

  • rangerwhoop, You don't have to apologize to me, because I've seen for myself the things that have befallen other countries and in some cases America too, to a certain extent but this 'constant finger pointing' with America is getting w-a-y out of hand. ALL NATIONS ON THIS EARTH have had a hand in corruption at some point in time, but it seems the US is always held accountable first. Why can't we focus on THOSE WHO ARE HELPING & PUTTING THEIR LIVES ON THE LINE rather than tearing down each other?

  • jebeja,

Sorry, evidently a bad attempt at satire on my part. Good response on your part. The USA is the Greatest Country on Gods Green Earth. Other countries have may have the heart to help, but none with the resources we have because of the blessings of Liberty.

  • That's right, keep on blaming America for ALL your problems, even those as I stated below who are tortured and in some cases killed for trying to help Haiti and other countries too. There's corruption EVERYWHERE IN THE WORLD TODAY, but us nasty stinken, willing to lend a hand and in some cases put our lives on the line Americans always get the blame (NO, YOU DIDN'T ASK FOR OUR HELP, & CAN GET IT FROM OTHERS, BUT WHAT ABOUT THOSE WHO WANT TO DO IT ANYHOW?). What a God awful shame.

  • rangerwhoop, "Evil USA?" Don't kid yourself, it's not just the USA but other countries who join in without people like you knowing about it. And, don't go blaming ALL of America for what's going on, because I personally know of "many" organizations who've helped Haiti and other places with food, clothing, and other much needed items, but NO mention is made of that is there? U'd better learn how to pray for ur own country & stop bashing everything here because u never know when ur turn is coming.

  • LMOA! Typical Anti-American, American- hating Democrats neomarxists!

    Its all Bush's fault!!

Fucking douchebags like this make me wanna PUKE in their faces!

  • Evil USA! Haiti should cut off contact with the USA.......ALL CONTACT. Their contact with the corrupt USA does nothing for them. Obama probably even caused the earthquake!

  • This man knows his shit geopolitical afairs so many people talk and don't have a clue how the us has been a contribution to so many failing states in it's persuit for money money and mor money well now they are going in debt tring get these' countries out of the shit hole they nudged them into.

  • Yeah, take away their own food production so they have to buy our produce then tell them they need to feed themselves when they run out of money to buy food.
