This pedagogic activity is designed to help students learn the lyrics of one of the Arab world's most celebrated songs, by the legendary Egyptian singer, Umm Kulthum. The song is titled: هذه ليلتي, 'this is my night'. There are three phases to this exercise: (i) students listen to the song and see the accompanying written lyrics, in Arabic, of course, (ii) Students see less and less words, and they're supposed to fill-in the blanks, and hopefully sing along. (iii) students see only blanks, and out of sheer repetition, I would hope they would be able to sing along without the support written support. Your comments are more than welcome.
