When you receive a meeting request in your Inbox it will look very similar to an email message. However, you should now see additional buttons in your message along with a copy of your Calendar to let you know if you have any conflicts. You do not have to immediately act upon meeting requests. However, if you delete them it will Decline the meeting. You have a few options for your response. You can Accept, mark as Tentative, or Decline the request. Each of these options has additional options such as "Edit response before sending", "Send the response now", and "Do not send a response". If you do not send a response, the meeting organizer will not know if you are attending or not. Once you have acted upon a meeting request it will be moved to your Deleted Items folder, where it will stay until it is cleaned out. There is a 30 day clean-up policy in place on the Deleted Items folder in UGAMail.
