7.25 inch ground passenger carrying miniature railway on the Beach Lawns, Weston Super Mare, England. This year, 2007, marks its 25th year of operation. Motive power consists of two petrol locomotives (Denis and Dylan) and one steam locomotive (Petra).
Note pagoda shelter on the left of the frame at 1min 21sec, this was the tram terminus shelter before the system closed before WW2.

  • OUTSTANDING !!!!!!!, is it Council ran ?, let me tell you, DONT LET THEM CLOSE IT.

Portsmouth had two of them, one on the seafront, got closed in favor of an aquatic centre, the second in Bransbury part in Eastney, doesnt get ran as much as it should.

  • The railway opens for the summer season. There is also a putting green and a refreshment facility which opens beyond the summer season, weather permitting (There being nothing between WSM and Newfoundland, Canada). The railway etc is privately owned, although not by me I might add.

  • Nice to see a video of the route at Weston. I'm the webmaster for the WMR and know the line very well.

  • Apologies pepestarr, I hadn't realised you were awaiting approval.

  • I don't think there is any or much information on the railway on the internet as it closed in 1995 but my friend now owns the only steam monoloco in the world which can be found on the net.

  • The internet is but one way to do research (the first port of call?).

  • Yes, it is indeed excellent value for money . Your comments relating to Eirias Park in Colwyn Bay are intriguing, I shall have to do some digging around.

  • That is cheap! I used to help a friend out on his 1/2 mile 10 1/4 gauge steam railway at Eirias Park in Colwyn Bay North Wales, we were restricted to speed because of tight curves and gradients! Again if my friend who owned it was to drive he would drive it rather fast! hehe

  • Yes, it does look deceptively 'quick'; I have seen the same effect from films of standard gauge heritage railways, which are legally limited to twenty five mph. The WMR does not travel at 25 mph! Fortunately, the proprietor of the railway was at the throttle, being reckless is not in his best interests. A six-and-a-bit-minute ride for £1.50 is good value.

Unfortunately, the picture/sound quality is not the best, but not bad for a cheapo mobile phone.

  • thats shifting for a miniature railway!
