Citizen Me: The Forgotten Class (2010) Documentary Film Trailer

Amidst the hostile environment surrounding the immigration debate, one young man is on a mission to tell the story no one seems to care about. Director Christian Rodriguez is trying to tell the story of the immigrants experience while living in the United States of America through these changing times. Historically, immigrants have always been political targets during rough times, and this is no exception. It seems that blaming immigrants for the country's problems is a popular thing to do. Everything from Health-care to the high unemployment rate seems to be all undocumented immigrants fault. At least, that's what the evening news would like you to believe. It is a much more complicated story than just that.
The history of Mexicans migrating north for a better living is rooted in deep political economics. The kind of economics that is hidden by governments for long term gain. But, when fully understood can make the big picture much more clear. This documentary film shines a bit of light into the lives of people who for years have lived in the shadows. Immigration Reform has been talked about for years now and this film is a view into what is going on in peoples lives right before it happens. This film focuses on the lives of 10 Mexican immigrants that live in United States. Some of them are Citizens and some of them are undocumented. Each individual was asked 5 questions. All of their stories are unique and inspiring. This documentary is about the struggle of trying to be an American in the 21st century. This is the first feature length film by Christian Rodriguez.

Is that woman serious? "Don't you dare call us criminals, don't you dare call us illegals" ??? Last time I checked ANY person entering ANY country undocumented is ILLEGAL, and when a person commits an illegal action they are in fact a CRIMINAL.

My mom is a legal immigrant and even she's baffled when people say things like that. It's absolutely ridiculous. You want rights? Become a citizen!

The US has been extremely generous to its illegal immigrant population. But this has made a mockery of the country's laws. I am not a US citizen or resident, but if it were up to me, I would make it a felony to be in the US without a valid status for more than 6 months during a person's lifetime. I would ALSO heavily punish the employers who hire illegals, with fines up to one month's total revenues, for every person-year they hire someone they cannot prove is legal.

I am of that ancestry but harbor no ill will as I am believer of the survival of the fittest, not someone who dwells on the injustices of the past. The native Indians were not organized.... it was tribal, and while there "land" was taken, it really was not theirs, it was anyone's who could master it.
