Is this the electric version mbira? This is so lovely! Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful talent. I just bought a simple 11 note and also an 8 note. I'm in love.

I would like to learn how to play this wonderful instrument..but i don't know where to start. this site even has so many different ones I don't know which one is right for me (thearraymbira [dot] com) :S or how to learn it, did you learn by yourself?
what would you suggest for someone who's like beyond beginner like myself? heh

@Skwiggy Yes I am self taught. It's really about just sitting down and working on it. Depends how much you want to work I guess. I think just talking about the Array with other players may help you in you decision as to which one to purchase. Me, I'd get the 4 octave if you are really REALLY going to get into it.

@puppetpatti why not the 5 octave? Is it because the notes are farther apart?

@gray1753 I've thought about the 5 octave and just feel that the 5th tine would be in my way...I know, weird huh. I probably shouldn't dis the 5 octave until I get my own hands on one! lol 4 just seems the perfect amount for me. All the upper notes and all the bass notes and the inbetweenies!

@puppetpatti So, I've played a few instruments in my short 17 years, and I've noticed that some can be very overwhelming when you first get your hands on it and tell yourself, "I'm gonna play this," and it's been my downfall evertime when I get that sensation of, "I have no idea what I'm doing." Is this instrument considerably intimidating the first time you go to play it?

@Abr0Sia It can be I guess. Especially if you're used to the norm. Me, personally, I love different. And I just dove right in. I was frustrated in the beginning because I could just sit down and play. Like with a flute or piano. It had to be figured out. But as the years have passed it's definately more norm to me now! The first time I played it, I stayed up from 9 pm to around 2:30 in the morning! I had, HAD to figure out something on it! :-)
