This is my 55 gallon tank about a month after set up. I have a nice bit of driftwood I'm preparing. Then the smaller pieces in the tank are coming out.

Note the wood laying along the front bottom, that's a big no-no! Two of my corys got trapped in between the wood and glass and ended up dying.

1x pearl gourami
1x blue cosby gourami
6x arulius barbs
5x white cloud mountain minnows
4x black khuli loaches
6x otos

  • That brown stuff is tannin which isn't toxic to fish, it just turns your water tea-colored.

I soaked my driftwood in a 5 gallon bucket, and replaced the water when it turned brown. It takes anywhere from a week or so to a few months depending on the piece, but if you boil it using say a large turkey fryer (which is just a large metal bucket over a gas burner) you can probably speed up the process a lot. That's what I did for my smaller pieces...

  • Hey just wondering how you prepared your driftwood, my uncle gave me a big beautiful piece as well as a beautiful smaller piece but when i put them in the tank they sent the water blood red! Luckily there were no fish in there yet, ive been told to boil it overnight but the larger pice is much to big to fit into anything to boil i also have tried soaking them in the bath overnight! Any tips??
