Ever wonder how they make the tiered stadium seating in movie theaters? They use Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) Geofoam blocks and pour concrete on top. One older method was to build the tiers out of steel studs and drywall or plywood. This creates a resonance chamber under the seating that effects sound quality. Geofoam blocks allow each theater to be laid up with 2 workers in 6-8 hours instead of 2-3 days with the steel/drywall/plywood framing method.
