The mine in Aitik

This open-pit mine, situated near Gällivare, is one of Europe's largest producers of copper, and also a major producer of gold and silver.

Today, it mines some 18 million tonnes of ore annually. Aitik is a vital supplier of copper concentrate for the Rönnskär smelter. The concentrate is delivered by train daily. The mine and its concentrator started operating in 1968.
