I made this press from an old ammunition box to make fuel briquettes from small brash from felling and pruning activity and household paper waste. I developed the machine from ideas I got on YouTube and the internet. This is basically a mixed version of The Peterson Press and the Murphy Homemade Fuel Briquette Press Mk. 2 shown on YouTube.

I made some modifications to the Fuel Briquette Press. The hydraulic press was too strong for the wood screws.

  • Love the use of the old ammo can! That means you could build one using a smaller box like for the .223, if you wanted.

How is everything held together though?

  • Your press seems to be the most elegant solution from the many I've seen. I've watched the Peterson Press videos, but can't find the Murphy Press videos you said inspired you. Could you please provide a link to that video? I'd really like to see it in hopes it will inspire some ideas. Thanks.

Unfortunately the Murphy Homemade Fuel Briquette Press Mk. 2 has been removed by the user :-(

  • Thank you for sharing that. The materials are easier to come by than some other videos I have seen and the brick is a good size. Cheers! xoxo

  • ...i certainly applaud your work, is it productive enough to keep up with winter?

  • How long will those burn and how is the creosote off the burning of those ?

  • lol jack in the box

    nice work

  • great press! You could save a step by pulling the pipes out so you do not have to push the ram down to open the lid. Just let the pressure off, pull the pipes, open the lid and pump the briquette out. Just a idea.....

  • Bummer. Well, that explains why I couldn't find it. Thanks for your video... it really opened my eyes to the types of innovations I can make when building a fuel briquette press.
