Edsel Ford commissioned Mexican muralist to create a mural for the Detroit Institute of Arts. He wasn't happy when Rivera depicted the automakers as part of an industrial system that was destroying the planet but Ford stood behind the artist. Edsel thought an artist had the right to displease a patron. Today the Rivera mural is considered to be a twentieth century masterpiece.
I love this mural. I love Diego Rivera. I love his art. And I love communism.

I agree with Edsel. I have no use for Rivera the communist but look forward to going there someday and checking out his work. There should be a certain openess and a thought provoking end to art. Sometimes I like it conservative sometimes I like the edge. Just like music.
