Maynard had arguably one of his best bands in the late 1970s - early 1980s. The solo by Mike Migliore on Stella by Starlight ranks as one of the best improve solos on a tenor EVER. I actually told Mike this in 1980 when the MF band played at the Meadowbrook in Detroit, MI. His response - "Hey, I'm just a regular guy!" Not quite, Mike - most guys don't have the command of their instrument like you do. Great tune!

One of my favorite parts too! He lip thrills on scorching high F's and G's-they cut that part out. If I had one dissapointment about the Tribute concert-it is that Phil played third most of the time and wasn't featured. He's one of Maynard's best trombonists ever!

Mike Migliore is my new hero!

It is my favourite MF arrangement. This performance must have been round 1978 when the album Carnival came out.
