1991 Cotton Bowl - Second Half (1.1.91)

Second Half:

The 2nd half begins with a long KO return by speedy Kevin Williams. UT responds with 2 sacks, Jeter solo and a team sack. UT's DL did play better than most people remember.

Gardere gets the ball back and scampers for a nice gain being chased by man-grizzly Russell Maryland , nice block by Samuels. Gardere then throws a weak pass , INT by Darrin Smith of Miami for a TD, 26-3, killing any and all momentum built up on the drive. So far, 3 TOs lead to 3 Miami TDs.

UT gets the ball back and again starts a nice drive with a good option run by Hadnot, Samuels block and Gardere is destroyed by Maryland on the pitch. Gardere runs for a first down but is then sacked by Caesar (who mocks Oscar Giles shovel sack dance) for Miami's 7th sack , taking UT out of FG range and a 54yd attempt falls short.

Dronett gets a nice tackle , described as a "shutter [censored]". This is followed by the famous long TD to Randall Hill where he runs into the tunnel and does his gunslinger routine. Hill, the one who "dreams of running with cheetahs and being pulled over by cop cars".
33-3 Miami .

UT continues to play hard but a key dropped pass on a drive, the 8th sack and then a fumble rip of Gardere kills that drive.

The 4th quarter had UT's 5th sack of Miami but on 3rd and 17, they hit a long pass, then get a TD pass to their TE. Miami has the xp blocked by Dronett which snaps Huerta's NCAA record 143 streak. 39-3.

Miami intercepts Gardere again, setting up a long TD run by their scatback, 46-3. Miami sets a record for most points and biggest margin. UT sets a record for most first down by penalty !

UT is sacked for the the 9th time as both teams put in their backups. Saxton has a good run on a drive but UT cannot complete pass to Kenny Neal as the 4th quarter finalizes.

The game is over and Miami goes into its famous mid-field break dancing scene. A cold and miserable day, and to make it worse, our car broke down on the way home. I curse Miami.

Oh I agree. The problem for Miami was when they did that against Alabama two years later and played undisciplined they got their asses kicked. It is hard to turn it on and off. Or when they acted a fool a few years earlier against Penn State with all their bravado they went home with sad, long faces and all of Pennsylvania celebrated at their expense and then Miami tried to play the race card. LOL Typical losers.
