hitchhikers

Where have all the hitchers gone? During the many years I depended on it, during the longer waits, I would guess at the responses of passing drivers. Maybe they'd look sheepish: 'I'd like to stop, but you might attack me, so sorry!' Or the reps, salesmen, would indicate the suit on the back seat wrapped in polythene as if to say 'No room. You might crease it , so I can't risk it.' Well that's the sort of thing I used to think and the starting point for this song. Then it turned into a sermon as usual.

"Your heart is with your hoard."
And I can't afford a mortgage,
Only bed and board,
And I can't afford to travel if .....

I remember these times quite well... :) but I realized the same thing: there don't seem to be a lot of people anymore who travel that way.
