每年，無國界醫生派出超過2000名來自60多個國家的志願人員，遠赴全球多於70個處於戰亂、天災、飢荒、疫症或貧窮的國家。這些擁有不同文化、不同背景的志願人員，無­分國界、翻山涉水為有需要的人提供緊急及基本的醫療服務。在救援工作的現場，他們也曾目睹不少生活在偏遠地區的病人，需跨過重重險阻，徒步千里去尋求醫療援助。

2002年1月，無國界醫生舉辦了第一屆無國界醫生野外定向，讓不能親身參與人道救援工作的香港市民，體驗無國界志願人員不畏艱辛的精神，與及病人缺乏援助的苦況。得到香­港市民的熱心支持，無國界醫生野外定向已連續七年成為全港最大型的野外定向比賽。

MSF currently works in more than 60 countries for victims of armed conflicts, epidemics, and natural and man-made disasters. Each year, more than 2,000 MSF volunteer doctors, nurses, other medical professionals, logistics experts, water/sanitation engineers, and administrators are sent to different parts of the world to provide medical aid. In many remotes areas, our volunteer may need to travel through inhospitable terrain to reach isolated populations. They have also witnessed patients walking for days to reach the MSF clinic.

In January 2002, the first MSF Orienteering Competition was launched. The competition allows participants to glimpse the hardships faced by victims of disasters, and the challenges that MSF faces during relief operations. With the support of Hong Kong public, MSF Orienteering Competition has become the largest orienteering competition in Hong Kong for seven years.
