This scene is a 'cinematic poem' for fatherless boys everywhere.

This is probably the greatest father-son scene in the history of cinema where the mightiest peak of human emotions is reached.
This is why cinema is considered to be an 'Art' form .

The Apu trilogy is the best I have ever seen.. it sums up so many aspects of the human emotions. This should be more popular..I cant imagine anyone that doesnt relate to some part of these movies... especially if you are indian.

note the final wailing of tarshehnai in the climax ... raga Patdeep ... same piece heard in Pather Panchali .. in durgas death

The boy is so cute. It was nice to see the movie have a happy ending. the human emotions (the anger of the boy when he is offered a toy) are depicted so well which can only be appreciated by people who have a heart.

This scene sums up the Apu Trilogy. I've seen all the films as they were released in the 50's. I've never been moved by films as much as the Apu Trilogy. Over the last 50 years, I've seen them at least 70 times. A unforgettable experience. I'm lucky I live near San Francisco, as they were not shown in many areas in the US.

I can't tell you the affection I have for this film. When I saw it one night about seven years ago, it just changed my life. If god is truly in the details, then the Apu Trilogy is as well!!
