I just bought myself a 81 trans am with a 78' nose to make it look like a smokey and the bandit TA. The car originally was a 4.9 turbo TA and they swapped in a 400 block , rebuilt the motor and put some goodies on it like a edelbrock air gap intake, holley double pumper carb, accel high voltage distributor, taylor wires ect. they also built up the tranny and put a uri ratchet shifter in. Turns out, after reading the codes off the motor, its a 400 block from a 67' firebird!

need shorty hedders, edelbrock intake, and 750 carb, and youll see real results
you didnt say if it had ram air heads or not, or what cam, stock isnt just stock with those old ponchos lol, they do kick ass, now you can get a balanced stroker kit, ported heads, and pushem to 7k easy

I just had a Pontiac 400 given too me. It was found in a pile of scrap metal. Started taking it apart today and it seems to be in good shape. Its got some sludge in it, which has kept it from rusting. I plan to rebuild it and find me a 67 GTO

what were the horse power #"s---- am guessing about 290 hp---my bud built a 69 400 stock everything, the camshaft was a summit grind 802--it made 380 hp on the dyno at PPR....and there was room for more...thanks for posting guys...
