It's an unfortunate cycle I think. In that all of this has more or less happened before. History - as Twain said, does not repeat itself....but it does occasionally rhyme. Perhaps, as more of the US citizenry in light of history may reconsider that we are first & best as a republic & should not really try to be an empire but a venerable regional power, an exemplar of low corruption, constitutional prudence & diligence, but that seems almost an absurd counterpoint to radical imperial ambition.
