As cynical as people can be, people also have what is called clinically, a 'normalcy bias.' This is a mindset in which people figure that just because something has never happened before, that it won't or can't happen. All we have to do is look at the events of 911 to know that this type of thinking can be a dangerous, deadly mistake.

@Despondency420 Well, it mite seem impossible. Fact of the matter is all of these accidents can happen. And all these can be avoided with a little common sense. Loose clothing around lathes, taking guards off machines, Welding/gas-cutting barrels/tanks that have contained fuel/oil..... I've had some close calls and a couple of minor injuries in engineering and car workshops, I cut corners occasionally, but not at the cost of safety!! (Or Life or Limbs for that matter)
