Me starting our 1937 Lister D-Type stationary engine for the first time in about 6 months. As you can see, I just pulled it out the garage, put in some water and some petrol, gave it a couple of turns and off it went.

  • Hi there!

    Nice engine!!

    What spec is it?

    Adam

  • Bog standard- 1.5 HP @ 700 RPM, straight petrol, Amal carburretor, water hopper cooling, 5:1 compression ratio, 348cc. I'm thinking about rigging up a 12V car dynamo and some automotive lamps to give it some load.

  • thats a diesel, right?

  • Nope- straight petrol with magneto ignition. You could also get petrol/paraffin versions, but never diesel.

  • Thanks for the comments- this Lister does seem to be a smooth runner- some of the others I've seen jump around a bit when idling. The tractor you can just see in the background is a Ferguson TED-20, which like the Lister, sits around un-used for months at a time but just fires first time when needed.

  • @FHCTech - THANKS, TECH, GOOD TO MEET A FELLOW WITH A GOOD SENSE OF HUMOR!

I HAVE A FRIEND WHO REBUILDS LIL ENGINES LIKE THAT (I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT MAKE OR MODEL) - BUT HE FINDS IT TO BE A GREAT HOBBY.

SORRY TO BE TOO SILLY, BUT I AM A VERY BORED FELLOW (ROFL!) - GLAD YOU LIKED THE COMMENTS AND GOT A LAUGH - LORD BLESS YA!

  • @jehovahuponyou

  • @FHCTech

    ..."YES!"

  • @jehovahuponyou

    ...what

  • That is called the "Rip-Snort-Franklin-Wizz-Jenny". It is the same motor that powered George Washington's boat across the Missouri River to fight the French in the American Revolution. You really have a bit of history there my friend, I'll bet ole George even signed it!!! God Bless America!!!!!!!

  • nice engine, and a fun hobby rebuilding these things !!

  • Lister did experiment with a diesel D but it was never manufactured.

  • Is that a spec 26?

Ive got one verry similar to this, but I think yours is one of the sweetest running ones ive seen!

  • They made anti clockwise ones you know. The mag has an arrow to show its designed direstion but you can reset them to work either way.
