How to Make a Paper Crane

A quick tutorial of how to make an origami paper crane. This video is used for my 2010 ArtPrize project entitled "Cranes for Kids."

"Cranes for Kids" is an experiment intended to deliver wishes to children. In Ancient Japanese folklore anyone who folds 1,000 paper cranes in their lifetime will be granted one wish from a crane; a long life or recovery from illness.

These cranes have been folded by children from various Grand Rapids area YMCA summer programs, caring individuals in the community, and yours truly. The goal is to collectively fold 100,000 paper cranes and donate them to the children at the new Helen Devos Children's Hospital opening in 2011.

A wish brings with it hope, and every child deserves hope.

@SingMeSweet1122, I've never heard of "Sandy's 1000 Positive Paper Crane Project," but it sounds like it may be similar to the "Cranes for Kids" project I did last year. Very cool! The pink "Artist" band was something I got when I entered the #ArtPrize which is an art competition in Grand Rapids, MI where anyone can enter and the public votes. You should check it out if you haven't already. Also, Google "Andrew Kovatch Public Figure" for my Facebook Fan Page where I have pictures of the cranes!

u can also make the wings flap.

@GoldenGumiBear Yes, you can! I know there are a few ways you make a crane, but I was teaching kids ages 3-15 and found this to be the easiest. Hope you enjoyed!

Yes! Finally after those many hard and bad quality tutorials this one is easy and awesome! I though my first origami crane I will ever do will be looking like after it got hit by school bus, but now I see my first crane looks good! Thank you a million, now I will do my cranes often. 999 to go hahah.
