He still brings the competitive side to the sport and if anything he can be the one who opens up the chance to win a basho to somebody else. He hasn't had double digit wins in quite a while, but he still has the ability to change the course of the basho in his matches. If he had gotten his kachi koshi this basho i would like to see him continue wrestling. However, seeing him perform at Sekiwake may seem a little different and saddening.

Well, here comes Chiyotaikai's retirement. If he accepts the demotion I do not think we are going to see him as an Ozeki again. I do not think there is any way he will make it back to Ozeki.

Well - he's said that he won't retire and will fight for 10 wins at the rank of sekiwake in January. He might not make it back to ozeki, but he is going to try.

Why would he do that though? I would retire while still on top. Why retire at a rank lower than what he's been at for all these years? What if he doesn't get his kachi koshi at Sekiwake? Is he just going to continue to be demoted or will he retire?

questions to be answered in January in Tokyo.
Of course, one should really ask if he should retire for the better of sumo as a whole - he certainly brings nothing competitive to the rank of ozeki anymore - but should older rikishi just be allowed to go on to continue making money, even if their best performances are behind them...
