Immediately south of San Onofre beach (in northern San Diego County, just off of I-5) is SONGS. The close proximity to a public beach is a powerful testament to the overall safety and cleanliness of nuclear power. In addition to wind and solar, nuclear power is an ecologically efficacious alternative to fossil fuels.

  • THEY SO BUILT THOSE CONTAINMENT STRUCTURES LIKE THAT ON PURPOSE!!! I mean seriously, who living with eyes wouldn't notice that while designing it?!

  • the dude that designed those must have been a real pervert lol

  • @NickB1967 We get enough free energy everywhere on the planet. But the big money lies in destroying Earth for her precious resources. Even if we needed these reactors people should stop being so fucking selfish and stop using our most valuable resources as fucking jewelry. If we used those precious resources for constructing dangerous things like nuke plants they would be a hell of a lot safer. Our entire planet would be safer if people weren't so sellfish

  • Tsunami hazard zones, Earthquake fault lines, and Nukes don't mix. Close SONGS 2013!

  • @PeekaPeep: Unfortunately your "green" alternatives are nothing but fairy dust and 21st century snake oil. For all its risks, atomic power is still far less environmentally destructive than a comparable number of coal mines and coal-fired power stations.

  • @PeekaPeep obviously u have no knowledge whatsoever of this issue, first of all san onofre is built DIFFERENT than the Japan plants and works in such a way that if the water supply is cut off, there will not be a melt down. ALSO nuclear is the cleanest way to go, much cleaner and more efficient than any other means of producing energy. By the way, all that so called "smoke" coming out of nuclear power plants is just STEAM, ya H20.

  • After what's been happening in Japan the past few days, I advise the state TO SHUT IT DOWN NOW!!! And do a Superman with the remaining radioactive waste and spent fuel rods and launch into the sun (though i'll settle for Venus-it's closer, lol). The Nuclear Age is officially over. Let's really go green this time and sorry folks, "clean coal" DOES NOT COUNT!!!

    >;-D

  • Those are the most beautiful objects I have ever seen. :)
