Remembering Bangladesh of 1972-75 by
Syeda Asifa Ashrafi Papiya, Member of Parliament.
On 15 February 2010 she spoke to the Bangladesh Parliament. The daily star reports:
Papia launched a blistering attack on the Bangabandhu's government. "Women and girls took shelter in jungles to save them from the Mujib Bahini. Even youths did not dare to protest in the face of repression of the Rakkhi Bahini," she said.

Amid desk thumping by fellow lawmakers of her party and shouting of treasury bench MPs in presence of the Leader of the House Sheikh Hasina, Papia continued, "They established a rule of killing. They began the culture of crossfire by killing Siraj Shikder."

Without naming Hasina, Papia said, "Wearing an attractive green sari and pearl necklace, chief of a party while going abroad announced that all activities of the last caretaker government will be validated."

  • People came from country side to the cities looking for food and survival instead end up dying in foot path in big cities. New generation don't know all the facts. They are blinded by false propaganda by Awami League. Awami league hijacked the independence of Bangladesh. Every one fought the liberation war but not the Awami League, I saw people dying in station road in Chittagong. Where as all relief material went to black market and India.

  • Thank you very much for the speech. I am a witness of those horror days from 1972 - 1975. Per government estimate 2,00,000 people died of starvation and lots of women sold their bodies to survive. Not to mention not much clothes for women to wear. People wore burlap like animals instead of shirts. Sheik Mujib’s party stole all the relief material. Sold them in black market and send them to India (Awami father land).
