I am contracting through an Umbrella Company -- should I be entitled to employee benefits?
Your Umbrella Company should provide you with an over arching employment contract, which will mean you are treated as a permanent employee. Any
good employer will make sure it's employees are well looked after and able to benefit from better perks and savings.
There are many ways an Umbrella Company can benefit its employees, from
salary sacrifice schemes to corporate affiliations giving its employees
discounts on products and services.
What is a salary sacrifice?
A salary sacrifice is when an employee agrees to give up part of their pay under their contract of employment. Usually, the sacrifice is made in return for some form of non-cash benefit.
A salary sacrifice can come in many forms, such as:
Childcare vouchers:
Pensions:
Give As You Earn -- charity donations
Bicycles
Mobile Phones
Eye Tests & Glasses
In addition to the salary sacrifice scheme any worthy employer will also build up corporate partnerships to further enhance the overall employee benefits package.
These partnerships can be introduced as employee "perks" enabling the employee to again benefit from discounts on sales and services such as high street shop discounts, leisure break deals, restaurants and much, much more.
Make sure your Umbrella Company provides you with an employment contract and an employee benefits package.
I'll speak with my Umbrella Company now - Thanks a lot for the advice.
