Crissy and Velvet were part of a line of growing-hair dolls that were released by the now-defunct Ideal Toy Corporation. This video starts with a very brief history and description of the dolls along with a stop-motion animation of how their hair could go from long to short to long without using scissors, wigs, or hair extensions.

The biggest challenge was trying to animate the dolls themselves. Unlike Asian ball-jointed dolls, Crissy and Velvet don't have too many articulated joints so I had to make do with what I have.

  • My daughters play with my set. I have Crissy, Look Around Velvet and Tressy (limited edition) also a beauty parlor. They love them just as uch as I did.

  • Fun! Thanks.

  • @Sheri451 Yes. My sister had a baby Chrissy doll.

  • Does anyone out there remember the Baby Chrissy doll? It was Chrissy, but it was a baby doll version, she could wear real baby clothes. They said Chrissy wears nine-month-old baby clothes. I had one of the Baby Chrissy dolls and my Mom bought her some baby clothes.

  • Nice video! It's fun to look at those dolls, even if I never had any! <3

  • @Linnxan Ball-Jointed dolls only joined the market recently, dear. Beautiful Crissy and Velvet are from almost 50 years ago. Shoo.

  • Crissy looked like a mix of Marlo Thomas & Sally Field. I didn't have that doll, but I had Velvet.

Can anyone here find a Baby Crissy commercial? That doll definitely looked like Sally Field, too.

  • omg.. so UGLYYYY!!!!! BALL JOINTED DOLLS are better!! ;O
