AALAC provided testimony at the 2nd hearing of the all GOP, Georgia Joint Committee on State Immigration Reform. This Committee was formed this September to "look at every legislative solution available to the General Assembly that picks up where Washington D.C. has let us down." The Committee is considering an Arizona-type law, mandatory E-Verify, birthright citizenship, English-only, and anti-DREAM act policies.
AALAC supports comprehensive, federal immigration reform, and believes many of the proposed state legislation would have a negative, disproportionate impact on all immigrants (regardless of legal status) and result in severe economic loss to the state.
