Award-winning author Joyce Carol Oates discusses her latest work, Sourland.
Oates's utterly fearless, disquieting, and imaginative writing spans multiple genres and has established her as one of America's preeminent authors. She is a recipient of the National Book Award for her novel them and the PEN/Malamud Award for Excellence in Short Fiction and has been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize as well as the Nobel Prize. The New York Times, in its review of Sourland, calls her "a dangerous writer in the best sense of the word, one who takes risks almost obsessively, with energy and relish." Hosted by TV and radio personality Faith Salie.

a star in such epic films as WILD THINGS 2, interviewing a Legend in the field of Literature......that's not classism, that's just TACKY.

It's not classism, I don't think. Faith Salie sounds insincere at times, mocking, interrupting--using her entertainer persona... The responses are still great, though.

Media personalities are loud. Writers, especially in the big-leagues, are sometimes quiet. Worlds have collided. Reverence for literature is amiss. "Well, not sure what I'm going to do today...Maybe 'War and Peace'; maybe a limerick." PRICELESS

Why, pray tell me would they have this poor, ignorant sounding woman interviewing Joyce Carol Oates? Makes no sense whatsoever. I feel very uncomfortable for them both

Is it just me or is the interviewer quite the unintelligent lady?

JCO seemed to be a little defensive at times regarding her work. The interviewer interviewed, but Joyce seemed somewhat taken aback by some of the questions. But I may be wrong. This is my first time seeing JCO and hearing her, and now I plan on reading her work.
