The "Perpetual Energy Wasting Machine" is a rope and pulley mechanism which moves an elevator continuously between the 1st and 2nd floor of a building. The system is powered by the sliding doors of the elevator.

The installation was created during a residency at the WRO Art Center in Wroclaw, Poland. It was funded by the Goethe Institute Cracow.

Art itself is not wasteful and surely not pointless; it's completely analogous to life - if art is pointless so is life, if it's wasteful, all life can be considered wasteful by the same rationale. Waste presupposes purpose, meaning is relative, not absolute.

Social commentary does not constitute art and hardly merits the epithet of "art". Any bum on the street will give you social commentary, any empty headed suburban mom. This, this is social commentary. That doesn't make it art.
