The Irish/Chinese entry, skippered by former British Olympian Ian Walker, leads the race around the world as the eight-boat fleet enters the notorious Doldrums, north of the equator. Ian Walker's crew stormed to the front after the Galway boat opted to sail wide of the main fleet. The boat's strategy allowed it to sail faster than its rivals and created a better angle for the journey South.
