Natasha was born November 17th, 2009 weighing 1 pound 14 ounces. She is a micro-premie at 25 weeks -- about 3 and a half months premature. Natasha stayed at Texas Children's Hospital for 14 and a half weeks.
She underwent a laparotomy to remove a cyst that formed at her first feeding due to premature intestinal development, after which she had an ostomy for the next 12 weeks or so. After reconnecting her stomach to her intestines she healed quite quickly and suddenly blossomed in weight (and personality!)
We battled against weak heart pressure, a collapsed lung (at one point), apnea, and assisted respiration throughout. Despite the roller coaster of emotion and worry, Natasha improved just a little every day, and with the careful, considerate, and sweet care she received every minute, at every hour, day and night, she has finally come home!
We cannot express enough our gratitude to all the NICU level 3 and NICU level 2 nurses, doctors and health professionals.
And we especially thank the nurses and doctors at Methodist Hospital (Dunn Tower 6) for the 3 weeks that you took care of Natasha before she was born.
ED!! This was soo beautiful!!! Almost made me cry!! Thank you for showing us the beauty that is Natasha. She is such a strong little one! We're all so proud of her! Please say hi to everyone for me. :)
With love and prayers,
