1. Do all liberals feel charity must emerge from the government before the individual/civil society? I think many feel both have a role.
2. As an economist, you could have addressed market failures better. Many liberals understand the power of incentive, the real debate lies in externalities. Government intervention in the market can be necessary for the environment, monopolies, and public good provision. To what extent and how is debatable, but I dont think liberals dont get the economics.

@AmanJohnX Free things supported by taxes- Education, paved roads bridges and tunnels, the library. Also, Warren Buffet is able to pay less taxes than his Secretary.

The problem is that your government, just like pretty much every other government in the world, doesn't control it's own money. Ultimately the private banks control money. There is always a day of payback. Money is born out of debt. It's the dirty little secret of our monetary system. Very few winners, many losers. That's why all the countries are in debt. They are not really in charge of their currencies - the banks are.

there is not a limited amount of money...something the current administration doesnt understand, the government has to live within a budget almost like a retired person, if you do not budget you money you will end up like we are now, 15 trillion bucks in the hole and counting. This administration has spent more money than every president has spent put together since Washington

Aman i'M STUDYING economics in college, and I have and share similar views with yours on the economy. Libertarian ideas are absolute.

liberals= idiots
I'm a liberal. I understand how your point of view makes sense in a theoretical world. However, in reality, as history shows, without government involvement in social programs, the private sector alone cannot/will not support the poor, disadvantaged people in America. The problem is, how do you get the private sector involved as much as it needs to be without profit incentive? Until there is a better alternative, I will continue to support government social programs.

@Kopperhead93 First assumption you're making is that we need to help the poor or that the poor need/deserve help. is that true? What if social programs are what keep people poor...do you have any experience with being poor?
More and more people are recognizing that for profit is the only sustainable way to help poor people..especially in poor countries. Your assumption of the profit incentive is that for profit is a bad thing when really it is the only moral economic system.

I'm two years into my economics degree and see how studying economics would lead anyone to a libertarian viewpoint. But i also see that most americans will not benefit economically or socially from libertarian policies. libertarian, individualistic ideas don't sit with me because i'd rather live in a society where we all pay a sum of our earnings according to our means and can rest assured that we will ALL be fully and fairly cared for medically and educationally, free of charge.

@rrff7755 "Free of charge" - you can never get something for nothing....you pay taxes, and you get something back - if you're getting a deal, it's most likely because someone richer than you has to pay MORE taxes ...they're being punished for being productive...and who says libertarian policies won't help? The reason WHY so many things are bad are because they're government run...WHAT authority does the government have to run healthcare?! are they doctors? businessmen? nope.

I'm liberal, lower middle class from a small town with nothing but corn fields and Amish people. I have very little money to spare. But every month I take some of the money I make at my minimum wage job and give it to those less fortunate than myself. In fact, I just gave to a friend of mine who is walking for Ovarian Cancer a week ago. He's a conservative. As soon as I can afford car I plan on starting a wellness group for the inner city kids in my area.
